Who we serve and how we serve them set our direction and drive our actions.
People come first at Astorian. We are a web of communities that at its core starts with us, the employees and creators of Astorian and expands all the way out to the community at large. A community empowers the whole to be much greater than the sum of its parts. Individually we are strong and impressive, but together, we are unbreakable and unstoppable. Astorian’s culture starts with us – all of us – and we are all we’ve got in the journey ahead.
Everything we do at Astorian is mission driven. We define our goals, craft our plan, and execute with clarity, ready to iterate along the way. For everything we do we must be able to answer why we're doing it.
We compete for our vision and against any obstacle in the way. So while we value collaborations and the community at large, we will give competitors a break or allow them to beat us in this race.
There are no obstacles, no limits, and no conventions that can stop us.
Great innovation is remarkably different from the status quo; it is able to do more with less, break past the curse of knowledge, and free our minds of dogma. To continuously win we must hack for solutions, hustle for deals, and consistently get it done.
We are all owners, not renters. We take ownership of our positions and responsibilities. We always seek guidance and help where needed, but we love and own the work we produce. As owners, we are in this for the long haul.
Sharpen your ears and wield your voice at Astorian. Speak up, be heard, and know your audience.
We must remember that the fundamental facilitator of value is communication, which must be clear and concise to be understood.
The costs of vagueness, deception, and hidden agendas far outweigh the uncomfortable truth. We are here for each other above all else, and this togetherness creates a trust which guarantees that we can stay HOT at Astorian.
If you are hearing a proposal: Seek to learn why something is being done a certain way, especially if you see it differently. Never be afraid to ask someone to explain their thinking or give evidence.
If you are presenting a proposal: Always be ready to discuss your process, data, and assumptions. Everyone at Astorian, regardless of title or stature, has a voice, and the strength of our voices correlate with how prepared we are.
There is nothing more beautiful than confidence and nothing uglier than arrogance.
We care about everything we do in our work and for our stakeholders. That’s why we can have assurance in our efforts, even when things don't go as planned. At Astorian, we care immensely about our work, the people we support, and what we stand for, and then we let that care fuel our confidence.
We are here because we are the best at what we were chosen to do. So while we are confident, we accept the reality of fallibility. We will miss things and we will fail often, but our strength is our ability to recognize this quickly and correct our plans. We let our belief fuel our output, but we reign in our ego to stop it from clouding our judgment.
We stand not only for some things, but against others. These are aspects that are not us and that hold us back from our vision.
At Astorian we have a culture of delayed gratification where we hold out for big wins before we celebrate. We are not a company that spends on things we haven’t thought through. But while we may not party all the time, we do acknowledge progress meaningfully along the way.
We keep things pretty real amongst each other. Gossip undermines our values of Staying Honest, Open, and Transparent (HOT). We focus on what will improve the team and work to ensure individual squabbles don’t derail the team’s ability to win the mission.
We believe the best thing to do after we achieve any level of success is to pursue even more. We never want our past to limit our future and constantly challenge ourselves to accelerate.
Everyone is different and we respect that. At Astorian, we don’t have to agree on everything, but we cannot disrespect anybody.
We’re not going to micro-manage anyone, ever. We want you to have the room you need to succeed and are here to support you with that.
We accept no forms of hate or discrimination. We want our differences to teach us and empower us to collaborate positively.
